Today saw the passing of an era. Robert Moog, the creator of the Moog Synthesizer, has died. As someone who grew up with a (vinyl!) LP of Moog Music (which of course included the obligatory “Popcorn”, the 4th overall best song for 1972) spinning on the turntable, I must simply say, “Robert Moog, we salute you!”

R.I.P.

Hey, they‘ve even got an office on the middle of the Nullabor Desert! Well, if I was in the middle of a desert, I’d want to get away pretty quick too…

Some people are just plain scary… and then there’s these people.

Last week my laptop decided to forget who I was. My profile information became corrupt, so everytime I logged on, it was like logging on for the first time (reminds me of an Alzheimers joke, but let’s not go there…). No huge drama - the Admin account was fine, so I could recreate my user account, and all was fine.

Except that Windows scrambled my e-mail folders, so I lost about half of my work emails.

That’s fine, they’re stored on a server. Oh, hang on, we don’t use Exchange, we use sendmail, so the ONLY copy of VITAL emails is stored on my local machine! Whoops!

Anyway, I found this today, a neat program which “makes it easy to backup your mail and address book to a ZIP archive and works with the Windows Task Scheduler to provide an automated backup solution.” Should be worth a try. If it works here, might even try it at home. There’s even a Pro version that allows you to backup directly to CD / DVD, but since my lappy doesn’t have a burner built in, the standard version will have to do for now.

Talking to the better half last night about blogs, and she was a little bit surprised that I in fact had a blog. I guess that shouldn’t surprise me - I think there’s only one or two people in the world that know I have a blog (Hi Glenn). But is this such an uncommon occurance?

Do we in fact blog, not for the blog to be read, but to feel as though the blog might be read? In the end, does it matter if no-one else in the world takes any notice whatsoever of what we put into our ramblings?

Probably not, so in the end, I will continue to write the occasional entry in here, in the hope that in some small, insignificant way, I will feel as though, one day, someone might just read them and feel as though they have been encouraged.
